Georgetown Market Place

Case Study

SITUATION

Zellers was closing as a result of the Target entry into Canada. In addition, Walmart informed the owner that they were not renewing their lease and were considering leaving the centre. The centre was over anchored and offered a reduced mix of retail and service tenants.

SOLUTION

  1. Negotiate a relocation with Walmart to take over the Zellers location
  2. Redevelop the former Walmart into CRU in order to offer a wider variety of fashion, destination and service tenants in the centre

OUTCOME

Renovated and expanded the mall. Finalized an agreement with Walmart to relocate into the Zellers and expanded premises. Attracted SportChek, Atmosphere, Marks Work Wearhouse and a series of fashion tenants to open in April 2014. The food court was also expanded and upgraded.
